The Cuban Hunger & The Horrors of Communism
The Cuban Hunger & The Horrors of Communism
In this striking work of art, the artist captures the economic reality and daily struggles of the Cuban people. This piece represents the scarcity of resources and food that the population faces every day from the moment they wake up until they go to sleep. The inside of the freezer with the Coca Cola bottles full of water, show the only thing that the vast majority of the population of that island, administered by a dictatorship for 64 years, can store. Inside, the artist shows what people who no longer want Communism think and who hide their thoughts for fear of government repression. In this way, when you close the door, no one knows what is hidden inside, thus representing the thoughts of the average citizen.
The simple verses of Jose Marti on the outside, mixed with the artist's poems, evoke the double morality to which the population is forced towards the world.
Through this work, the artist seeks to raise awareness about the difficult conditions faced by the Cuban population, inviting reflection on socioeconomic and political issues. The "empty refrigerator" becomes a powerful symbol of the shortcomings experienced by the community, but it also serves as a call to find solutions to improve the quality of life of people in that country through freedom.
