"I can't talk" symbolizes the censorship of freedom of expression in any medium and location, inside and outside the country to any Cuban citizen.
The work is marked by lines on a face that suggest the constant presence of the oppressive regime in all parts of society using others as means of control through well-designed systems of control.
The color palette used is predominantly somber, with muted tones reflecting the oppression and lack of freedom in the communist environment. However, more vibrant splashes of color are incorporated into the illuminated areas, symbolizing the inner strength and resilience of the human spirit.
"I Can't Talk" is a deeply moving reflection on the corrosive impact of censorship and oppression on an individual's ability to reach their full potential using the means available today. It is also a call to action and a reminder of the importance of preserving and protecting freedom of thought, action and expression in all societies.
